About The Province of Capiz

Capiz is now known to be the seafood capital of the Philippines and slowly, the scary folklore about Capiz is turning to dust.

An Aswang (or Asuwang) is a mythical creature in Filipino folklore. The aswang is an inherently evil vampire-like creature and is the subject of a wide variety of myths and stories, the details of which often vary greatly. Spanish colonizers noted that the Aswang was the most feared among the mythical creatures of the Philippines, even in the 16th century.

A type of aswang, the Kikik/Tik-Tik, turns into a enormous, prowling bat or bird at night, looking for pregnant women. As it sucks the blood from the fetus with its long proboscis, it makes a 'kik-kik-kik' sound. Other stories relate the kikik as an aswang's familiar, its sound masking the aswang's proximity from would-be victims.

The term wak-wak or wuk-wuk is frequently used for the same creature in the Cebu region. The legends of the wak-wak and kikik are much the same, but the wak-wak is specifically supposed to change into its birdlike form by leaving behind its lower body, much like the manananggal. The cry of a night bird which makes a "wuk-wuk-wuk" sound is believed to be the call of this monster and is feared by superstitious villagers. As with the call of the kikik, the wak-wak is believed able to make its cry sound distant when the creature is near.

The sigbin or zegben has been known as another type of aswang, and alternately, as the kikik's familiar. One of the most popular legends in the Visayas region is the infamous aswang Tniente Gimo or Lieutenant Gimo from DueƱas, Ilo-ilo. In addition, The most commonly known in terms is something called Tyanak/ Tianak happens to be as the unborn baby's due abortion.

All of this was not true. Its all folk, but because of this Capiz become more popular because they have now Aswang Festival, another way to promote their province.

Here are some of the Philippines interesting and funny facts.

How big is the Philippines? The Philippine Islands is a small country in comparison to the United States. In fact, if you compare the Philippines with the state of Texas, Texas is about two times larger versus the Philippines.

One of the World Heritage properties in the Philippines includes the two thousand years old Rice Terraces of the Philippine Cordilleras.

There are more than 10 million Filipinos who live overseas, of this, about 8 million are OFWs or Overseas Filipino Workers. According to the Central Bank of the Philippines, overseas Filipinos remitted an estimated US$ 14.4 billion to the Philippines in 2007. Yearly, this figure goes up. (I hope this stays as is even though we are being hit by the world financial crisis!)

The karaoke is a Filipino invention and not a Japanese one. Karaoke meaning "singing without accompaniment" in Japanese was invented by Roberto del Rosario. He called his invention "Sing-Along-System", which was later called karaoke.

The Philippines is considered the "text capital of the world". Of the estimated 35 million cell phone subscribers in the Philippines in 2006, about 350 to 400 million SMS (Short Message Service) or text messages are sent daily. This figure is more than the total daily text messages sent in the U.S. and Europe combined. Soon enough, we would be the mobile-blogging capital of the world!!!

New Trivia About Philippines

Do you know that the country Philippines is also mentioned in the Bibble. I know you will wonder why I say Philippines is also mentioned in the bibble. We can be easily understood that there is no verse in the Bible carried the term Philippines, with the reason of the Bible was written two thousand years ago or centuries and it was before the Spaniards came here.

However, there are verses in the Bible that has this prophesy about the Philippine archipelagoas well as the other islands in the Pacific.

You will find it in Book of Isaiah
chapter 24 , erses 15 to 16 read.

And it say like this:

"Therefore in the east give glory to the Lord; exalt the name of the Lord, the God of Israel, in the islands of the sea. From the ends of the earth we hear singing: 'Glory to the Righteous One.'" The Philippines is the only Christian archipelago in the Pacific covering East Asia.
